Ballgowns, A-line, fit-and-flare, oh my! It’s hard to sift through Pinterest or Google Images and figure out what shape, or silhouette, you prefer for your wedding gown. Here’s some helpful information to help you choose the right shape for you!
Mermaid
Mermaid gowns are going to be fitted from the top of the dress down to close to the knees, then the skirt will often flare dramatically. Some of our favorite mermaid dresses include:

Fit-and-Flare
While similar to mermaid dresses, fit-and-flare gowns flare out between the hip and mid-thigh. These gowns may have a more dramatic flare at the skirt or it may be a gradual change. Here are some fabulous examples of fit-and-flare gowns:

Sheath
Sheath dresses are some of our favorite dresses! This shape is going to be fitted through the hip, then fall straighter than a fit-and-flare or a mermaid. A sheath gown may also be called a column gown. There still may be a slight flare to the skirt, but it will be minimal. Check out these gorgeous sheath dresses:

A-Line
A-line gowns are an excellent choice, particularly if you’re looking for a softer, more romantic look. These dresses will be fitted to the waist, then gently fall to the ground. The skirt is often a few layers of tulle, quite soft, and flowy. Here are some of our favorite A-line dresses:

Ballgown
